Scholarship application

2019-2020 Academic year

I (we) hereby grant permission to have this application, tax records, high school records, and college financial and academic records that may be obtained, reviewed by the FOUNDATION and/or any college listed on the form.  I (we) will notify the FOUNDATION, in writing, of any change of address, college of attendance, financial information, etc.  If an award is made, the funds will be used ONLY for payment of necessary tuition and fees for attendance at an eligible college or university on a FULL-TIME basis as defined by the college catalog or registrar.  Scholarship checks will be payable to the student and the school listed on the application unless we are notified of a change of school. The information submitted herewith is true and correct to the best of my/our knowledge.  As the APPLICANT, I fully understand my obligation to maintain a level of academic standing and moral character that will reflect favorably upon the FOUNDATION.

General Scholarship Information

  1. One-year scholarships are awarded to qualified applicants who are members of the South Carolina National Guard, or legal dependents of active, retired or deceased members of the South Carolina National Guard.  

  2. Applicants may re-apply yearly (for a maximum of four (4) scholarships) by completing a current application and competing on the same basis as other applicants.  

  3. Applications are individually and equitably evaluated based on application and all documents submitted.

  4. College students with only one semester remaining to graduation are ineligible to receive a scholarship.

  5. All information is confidential and tax information will be destroyed after selection process is complete.  Please blacken out social security numbers on tax forms.  

  6. The application must be accompanied by all required attachments or will be considered incomplete.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Scholarship applicant or their sponsor must be a member of the National Guard Association of South Carolina at the State Level.  

  2. Scholarship recipient must attend an accredited institution.

  3. Applicant must be a full-time student (at least 12 semester hours or equivalent) pursing an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree

  4. Applicants applying for a Financial Need/Academic Achievement Scholarship must have a 2.5 GPA based on a 4.0 scale.

  5. Applicants applying for an Academic Excellence Leadership Award Scholarship must have a 3.5 based on a 4.0 scale.

  6. Applicant or applicant's sponsor must have an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of less than $150,000 to apply for the financial need/academic achievement scholarship. 

FINANCIAL NEED/ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

(These Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1000.00)

 

Attachments required for the Financial Need/Academic Achievement Scholarship

 

1. SAT/ACT Results - website printout or official copy (High School Seniors Only)
 

2. Transcripts:

  • High School Seniors – High school transcript including first semester of grade twelve

  • High School Graduates – High school transcripts

  • College Freshman – High school and college transcripts (1st semester transcript required)

  • All other applicants – transcripts for all formal education completed after high school

 

3. Individual or Sponsor’s 2017 tax return (pages 1 and 2).  Applicant’s cannot use their tax return if their sponsor claimed them on their 2017 tax returns as a dependent.  Please blacken out social security number on both pages. 

 

4. Completed online application.

 

5. GRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY: GRE/GMAT/LSAT/MCAT results (website printout or official copy). Graduate students must be a member of the South Carolina National Guard. Dependents are not eligible to apply as a graduate student. 

 

 

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Two (2) Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1500.00 in this category.  One $1500 Scholarship will be awarded to a High School Senior and one $1500.00 will be awarded to an Undergraduate Student.  

 

NEW IN 2019-2020– The committee will award an additional four (4) scholarships in this category in the amount of $1000.00.

Additional Information for the Academic Excellence Leadership Scholarship

 

Each applicant will be evaluated on the following information in additional to GPA:
 

1. Applicant’s involvement and leadership in school, civic, and/or community activities 

2. Unusual and/or specific circumstances 

3. Applicants must show excellence in academics and leadership
