NOTIFICATION AND AWARD
Scholarship checks issued by SCNGF are made payable to the college, university, or technical college, not to the Student. IRS Publication 970 states that scholarships may be used to pay for qualified education expenses, which include "tuition and fees required to enroll at or attend an eligible educational institution; and course-related expenses, such as fees, books, supplies, and equipment that are required for the courses at the eligible educational institution."
Note: Applicants who receive an appointment to one of the U.S. Service Academies (or affiliated preparatory schools) or are awarded a full scholarship at any accredited U.S. post-secondary institution of higher education are not eligible to receive funds from the SCNGF. A full scholarship is usually defined as one that provides for payment of tuition, books, lab fees, and other related expenses.
