SCNGF Scholarship Application

2020-2021 Academic Year

YOU MUST AGREE TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS TO BEGIN APPLICATION

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  1. One-year scholarships are awarded to qualified applicants who meet the following eligibility requirements:
     

  2.  Full-Time Student pursuing an Associate or Bachelor Degree and is a member of the South Carolina National Guard or a dependent of an active or retired member of the South Carolina National Guard. Applicant must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours. High school seniors with reduced classes due to completion of required classes will be exempt from the 12 semester hours requirement.
     

  3.  Full-Time Student pursuing a Graduate Degree who is a member of the South Carolina National Guard (Self-Sponsor). Dependents are not eligible under the Graduate Degree Program.
     

  4. Scholarship recipients must attend an accredited institution and may re-apply yearly (for a maximum of four (4) scholarships) by completing a current application and competing on the same basis as other applicants. College students with only one semester remaining to graduation are ineligible to receive an award.
     

  5. Applicants who receive an appointment to one of the U.S. Service Academies (or affiliated preparatory schools) or are awarded a full scholarship at any accredited U.S. post-secondary institution of higher education are not eligible to receive funds from the SCNGF. A full scholarship is usually defined as one that provides for payment of tuition, books, lab fees, and other related expenses

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

All information is confidential. This application must be accompanied by all required attachments or it will be considered incomplete.
 

Transcripts​

  1. High School Seniors – High school transcript including first semester of grade twelve
     

  2. High School Graduates – High school transcripts
     

  3. College Freshman – High school and college transcripts (1st semester transcript required)
     

  4. All other applicants – transcripts for all formal education completed after high school


 

Financial Verification

  1. Financial verification is NOT required for applicants applying for the Academic Excellence Leadership Award.
     

  2. Completed FAFSA with Estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) OR Student Aid Report (SAR) is required for financial need verification.
     

Attendance Verification

  • College Acceptance Letter or Proof of Enrollment

NOTIFICATION AND AWARD

 

  1. Letters will be mailed to recipients. Only those selected to receive a scholarship are notified. Those not selected will not receive letters.
     

  2. SCNGF will present a check to the recipient at the awards luncheon. Check is made payable to the college or university identified by the scholarship recipient. It is the recipient's responsibility to forward the check to the appropriate office at the college or university. Scholarship checks issued by SCNGF are made payable to the school the recipient will attend, not to the student. IRS Publication 970 states that scholarships may be used to pay for qualified education expenses, which include “tuition and fees required to enroll at or attend an eligible educational institution; and course-related expenses, such as fees, books, supplies, and equipment that are required for the courses at the eligible educational institution.”
     

  3. If recipient is unable to attend the awards banquet, SCNGF will mail a check to the recipient's home address on file.

SCHOLARSHIPS

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE LEADERSHIP - $1500 Scholarship

 

Achievement: Applicant’s grade point average on current official transcript (GPA must be a 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale).
 

Leadership/Citizenship: Applicant’s involvement and leadership in school, civic, and/or community activities.
 

Additional Information: Unusual and/or specific circumstances will be considered.

 

  1. Applicants must show excellence in academics and leadership
     

  2. Must be an undergraduate student at a 4-year college or university
     

  3. Financial verification is NOT required when competing for this scholarship
     

  4. Applicant must check the “Academic Excellence Leadership Award Only” box on the Scholarship Form. If applying for both Academic Excellence Leadership and Academic Achievement awards, applicants must check BOTH boxes on the application.

FINANCIAL NEED / ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT - $1000 Scholarships

Achievement:  Applicant’s grade point average on current official transcript (GPA must be a 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale) and SAT or ACT Scores for High School Seniors.
 

Financial Need:  Applicant’s need for financial assistance based on Expected Family Contribution and Cost of Attendance calculations.
 

Leadership/Citizenship: Applicant’s involvement and leadership in school, civic, and/or community activities.
 

Additional Information: Unusual and/or specific circumstances will be considered.
 

  1. Applicants must show achievement in academics and leadership.
     

  2. Financial verification IS required when competing for this scholarship.
     

  3. If applying for both Academic Excellence Leadership and Academic Achievement awards, applicants must check BOTH boxes on the application.

SCNGF SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION AGREEMENT

I (we) hereby grant permission to have this application, tax records, high school records, and college financial and academic records that may be obtained, reviewed by the FOUNDATION and/or any college listed on the form. I (we) will notify the FOUNDATION, in writing, of any change of address, college of attendance, financial information, etc. If an award is made, the funds will be used ONLY for payment of necessary tuition and fees for attendance at an eligible college or university on a FULL-TIME basis as defined by the college catalog or registrar. The information submitted herewith is true and correct to the best of my/our knowledge. As the APPLICANT, I fully understand my obligation to maintain a level of academic standing and moral character that will reflect favorably upon the FOUNDATION.
